Artificial intelligence, blockchain and the internet of things are examples of innovations that are profoundly shaping our society. Technologies offer great opportunities to create societal impact while also creating new challenges and risks. 

Both sides need to be addressed to realise "Tech for Good". 

Challenges include filter bubbles created by social media algorithms that further polarise entire communities. Moreover, technology can amplify existing societal problems such as inequality; for example, through AI-supported profiling that can unjustly disadvantage minorities. 

Opportunities lie in leveraging technology to create a positive impact through better, cheaper, and often more targeted solutions that address needs in new ways. Examples range from apps for small-holder farmers to deploying robots in elderly care or disaster response.
