Developing a sustainable business is imperative in the transition towards an environmentally friendly,
socially just and economically viable society.
Negative impacts of human-induced climate change can be observed worldwide. Our planet is facing rising temperatures and sea levels and more frequent and extreme weather events. However, the impacts of climate change are not distributed equally: countries, which have historically contributed fewer emissions, tend to be disproportionately affected.
The climate movement is starting: globally, climate protection laws are being passed, international partnerships created and cross-industry alliances formed. Increasingly, governments are employing strategies to reach the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Many businesses are seizing the emerging opportunities by delivering on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals and putting a greater focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Despite these efforts, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts a global warming far beyond the 1.5°C goal of the 2015 Paris Agreement, if no further and more rigorous actions are taken.
We recognise that businesses with their global supply chains play a central role in enabling a sustainable future. Indeed, forging a sustainable and human rights-oriented path has become imperative for good business. To stem the tide of human-induced climate change, we advise, empower and inspire businesses to build economically viable and responsible companies.
