Corporate sustainability strategy, goals, SDG & GRI reporting for a global coffee company
Client Challenge
A coffee trading group lacked a comprehensive understanding of its worldwide sustainability activities and sought to develop a group-wide, holistic sustainability strategy linked to SDGs and GRI reporting standards
VfG Contribution
- Created survey on sustainability practices and designed a stock-taking template to compile data on coffee farm projects and supported the corporate responsibility team in collecting data
- Conducted follow-on interviews with 26 subsidiaries (coffee farms, cooperatives, importers, exporters) to deepen understanding of current sustainability practices
- Established first group-wide sustainability framework and goals which was presented and endorsed in annual leadership meeting
- Supported introduction of new reporting software and ensured its customisation to meet client reporting needs, ensuring linkage of all activities to SDG and GRI indicators
- Prepared and supported facilitation of webinars to implement new strategy and reporting framework across markets

- Sustainability was elevated as a group priority as a result of our work on corporate goals
- Transparency over global activities with smallholder coffee farmers
- Creation of a community of practice among sustainability officers worldwide resulting in increased knowledge sharing and improved programmes for smallholder farmers
