Improving annual country reporting of a UN organisation
Client Challenge
A UN agency had introduced a new annual reporting template and software and wished to collect feedback to make improvements after a first pilot year of reporting under the new system.
VfG Contribution
- Conducted a worldwide survey of stakeholders involved in reporting complemented with deep dive interviews
- Mapped out key technical and content issues and recommendations for change
- Prepared and facilitated a global three-day workshop for reporting officers and senior managers from headquarters to discuss findings and agree on content and technical changes needed to improve annual country reporting going forward and embed it better within performance management overall
- Compiled a report to senior management documenting key recommendations including the creation of a global reporting group

- Increased buy-in for new annual reporting system among key stakeholers
- Creation of a global community of practice of monitoring and reporting officers to increase knowledge and best practice sharing and carry out better qualitative and quantitative reporting overall
- Greater integration of reporting within overall performance management efforts
