Impact strategy and management for a grantmaking foundation

Impact strategy and management for a grantmaking foundation

Challenge
Eleven, a non-profit organisation for the promotion of children and young people supported by the Reimann family of entrepreneurs, wanted to reposition itself strategically after many successful years to provide even more impactful aid.

Contribution
In several strategy workshops, Value for Good (VfG) worked with the Eleven team to use Eleven‘s longstanding impact logic as well as the knowledge gained from previous work and impact measurement to develop a revised impact strategy, detailed impact objectives, and the measures required to achieve the objectives. VfG then provided support in revising the impact measurement and developing impact dashboards to better understand and present the impact on the supported organisations.

Impact
Eleven has a revised, clear strategy serving as the basis for prioritising and implementing activities. Progress is made visible, controllable and communicable through tracking via interim targets, impact measurement, and dashboards.

Elevated the impact management of >50 NGOs for increased impact

Challenge
To move the needle on societal issues, resources need to be allocated in the most effective way possible. Everything rises and falls with excellent impact management – yet organisations are regularly confronted by the great complexity of the topic.

Contribution
Since 2018, we have supported selected NGOs in professionalising their impact management in our annual VfG Impact Academy – based on the VfG Impact Management Framework and Matrix. By aligning strategy, data measurement, steering, and communication, we help these organisations be impact-oriented in everything they do.

Impact
The Academy’s learning community grew to over 50 organisations – and thereby over 160 persons – driving impact in the social sectors of Germany and Switzerland.

Challenge
In 2022, Aktion Mensch Stiftung wanted to know to what extent the initiatives it has funded in the last 10 years have increased the inclusion of persons with disabilities, and whether its actions for improving project support and impact reporting were effective.

Contribution
Through surveys, internal and external interviews, and analyses of reports, Value for Good (VfG) evaluated how the foundation worked—mainly how it selected, drove impact, and shared insights from the projects it funded. Based on the reviews, VfG developed recommendations for future funding approaches.

Impact
As a major actor in the inclusion of persons with disabilities, the foundation gained insights into both the impact of its work at a portfolio level and opportunities to enhance working with project counterparts for maximum impact.

Challenge
Kindersprachbrücke Jena e.V. (KSB), a rapidly growing NGO with more than 150 employees, needed a clear strategic direction and optimised organisational structure and processes to sustain its impact-driven growth.

Contribution
Value for Good (VfG) supported KSB in developing a mid-term strategy closely aligned with their impact goals and Theory of Change. Additionally, VfG conducted a systematic analysis of their organisational strengths and weaknesses (governance, structure, processes), developed options to enhance organisational effectiveness, and provided hands-on sparring for effective implementation.

Impact
KSB now operates with enhanced organisational capacity to further scale its impact, ensuring sustainable growth and greater reach.
