Challenge
GENUI, an impact-focused buyout private equity fund, partnered with Value for Good (VfG) to both assess and enhance the impact of its investments.

Contribution
In 2023, VfG helped to develop the impact assessment methodology for GENUI, conducted several impact reviews using market-leading frameworks and developed a comprehensive Theory of Change with targeted impact KPIs for selected GENUI portfolio companies.

VfG continues to collaborate with GENUI on impact red flag assessments and comprehensive impact due diligence, including impact value creation plans, impact KPIs for management incentivisation, and monetarisation of impact where applicable, thereby contributing to the alignment of future investments with the fund’s strategy.

Impact
As a result, GENUI has a tested impact assessment methodology in place and has gained deep insights on how to leverage and maximise the impact of its portfolio companies.

Challenge
Beyond Capital Partners (BCP), a mid-cap PE firm, partnered with Value for Good to embed an impact-lens across its investment lifecycle and advance its impact investing practices, following the launch of its new Article 8+ fund.

Contribution
Value for Good supported BCP in sharpening its impact strategy at the fund level and developing a tailored impact thesis for its investment themes. Together we defined how to integrate impact considerations across the investment lifecycle, including clear roles and responsibilities and introduced a leading industry framework to assess the impact of portfolio companies.
For selected portfolio companies, we conducted in-depth impact assessments and developed impact value creation plans, including a Theory of Change and measurable impact KPIs for ongoing tracking.

Impact
The fund now benefits from a robust impact investment strategy and improved capabilities to assess and manage impact and an empowered strategic decision-making in impact investing to drive value.

Earlybird, one of Europe’s most established venture capital firms, has set up the Vision Lab to empower migrant entrepreneurs. Some of the start-ups have strong societal missions but need guidance in shaping their impact strategies and building solid data management practices.

Contribution
Value for Good provides tailored impact coaching to selected start-ups. We help teams develop robust Theories of Change to align activities with their mission, define clear and measurable impact KPIs, and build concrete pathways toward their goals. We also support entrepreneurs in crafting compelling impact narratives that resonate with stakeholders.

Through our coaching, start-ups in the Vision Lab are better equipped to measure, articulate, and scale their impact, thereby enhancing their ability to attract customers, partners, and investors and drive societal impact.

Challenge
BCG was looking to take its existing impact management approach to the next level through a cohesive framework that aligned its social impact activities, governance structures, communication, and measurement capabilities to steer its project work with a clear impact focus.

Contribution
Value for Good worked with BCG to develop an overarching framework to align social impact activities across the company, enable content deep dives on two impact areas, facilitate in-depth impact reviews of >15 selected projects, create a suite of tools for project teams to assess their impact, and support the creation of an online Impact Academy training curriculum.

Impact
The result: An increased ability to focus work on desired outcomes, an upskilled workforce, and greater visibility into scope of social impact work.

Challenge
The Berliner Volksbank needed to align its philanthropic efforts with local societal needs and its strategy, while also improving its corporate culture around CSR.

Contribution
After reviewing past activities, identifying social issues, leading interviews and workshops on future priorities, and benchmarking competitors, Value for Good detected a unique engagement fit. Two focus topics, potential partnerships and CSR activities, have been outlined, and the approval process for grant and sponsorship was standardised.

Impact
With the focus on its strength and ecosystem, and backed by a standardised process, the bank elevated its corporate citizenship— increasing impact, efficiency, and employee involvement.
